Mission Statement

The mission of the Robert D. Farber University Archives & Special Collections Department is to acquire and provide access to primary sources that support the teaching, research, and scholarly interests of the Brandeis community and that facilitate broader research in identified areas of topical strength. The Department houses rare books, archival collections, manuscripts, sound and moving image collections, visual collections, artifacts, and more. Members of the Brandeis community and outside researchers are welcome to use the Department's materials in accordance with its policies.

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of fair use, that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse requests for copies (in any format), if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would be in violation of copyright law.
