A concierge stops a woman from entering the building, citing a phony rule that after 10am the concierge can confiscate a tenant's purchases.
LES PORTIERS DE PARIS (The Parisian doormen) is a series of 5 lithographs, which appeared in the Charivari in July 1856 (1 print) and between November and December 1858 (4 prints).
CONCIERGE. The "concierge" (caretaker/doorman) of the house held a very special, powerful position in 19th century Paris. He distributed the mail, cashed in the rent and forwarded messages. He was the mediator between the landlord and the tenant. |
