dc.description.abstract The image shows the personalities mentioned below, trying to divide a treasure chest between them. The expression: "if nobody puts a claim to it, it's ours!" has been taken from "Les Saltimbanques", a play from the 1830's by Dumersan and Varin. Ratapoil was a fictitious name for a Bonapartist rogue and hit man, an active member of the so called “Société du 10 Décembre” and the henchman of Napoléon III. He always carried a menacing cudgel, using it like a baseball bat to convince political opponents to change their votes in favour of the Bonapartist party. Daumier created a beautiful sculpture of Ratapoil expressing all the violence and aggressiveness of this character in a highly convincing way. Henri de Bourbon Chambord, duc de Bordeaux, comte de, Henri V (1820-1883) was the son of the Duc de Berry and direct in the line of the Bourbons to succeed to the throne. He acted as head of the so called legitimist party and claimed the throne under the name of Henry V. He endeavoured to unite the two separate branches of the Bourbon movement by arranging a unification. And Charles Louis Napoléon Bonaparte, Napoleon III Charles Louis Napoléon. en_US
