dc.description.abstract A man has just found a strand of hair in his soup. Daumier had a strained relationship with his contemporary Victor Hugo. This attitude was based on Victor Hugo's political right-wing attachment to the Government of Louis-Philippe. Daumier drew only one lithograph for Victor Hugo in one of his works, the "Châtiments". Daumier wrote that this print was made 1-2 weeks after Hugo's book had been published on October 20,1870. On January 2, 1871 thirty prints were made specifically for Victor Hugo. Some of them were jointly signed by Daumier as well as Hugo
