Abstract:
Caricature of Jean Claude Fulchiron.
Jean Claude Fulchiron (1774-1859) was a writer, industrialist and politician and served as a Deputy from 1831-1845. He supported de Broglie in 1835. This print is based on a previous sculpture of Fulchiron. He was a member of the Académie Française und wrote two tragedies, which however were never performed. At the end of his political life he started a new and successful career as travel writer. Daumier’s sculpture of Fulchiron (Gobin 3) is with an almost frozen, death-like, immobile face. He is described as the Tartuffe, a hypocrite and leading character in one of Molière's plays.
