dc.description.abstract A man is tasting a glass of Bordeaux-Lafitte, one of the most famous wines in France. In 1855, Lafitte was classified as premier cru (first category). GALERIE PHYSIONOMIQUE (A portrait gallery) is a series of 25 lithographs which appeared in the Charivari between November 17, 1836 and December 29, 1837. The prints from the series GALERIE PHYSIONOMIQUE numbered DR 326 to 350 carry French as well as English subtitles. The series consisted of 25 prints by Daumier and six by Traviès. It mainly covered topics such as the theatre, tobacco, wine, and gastronomy.
