dc.description Published in: Le Charivari, April 28, 1851.
dc.description.abstract The print shows Léon Léonard Joseph Faucher (1803-1854) as Hercules, attacking "Le Charivari" and thereby the free press. On May 12, 1849, Faucher had sent a telegraphic message informing the governors of the various states about the result of a vote of confidence against the government, thereby possibly influencing the outcome of the election. This information was published by "Le Charivari" leading to viscious attacks by Faucher against the paper.
