Description:	It is often said that the best way to understand a system is to try to change it. Indeed, over the past decade, as we have studied various synagogue change initiatives, we have inevitably learned a great deal about the synagogues themselves. This paper highlights findings from our research and some of the questions they raise. The presentation is intended to be a generative Jewish process in which data invite discussion, and answers beget more questions.
