dc.description.abstract A caricature of Henri-Auguste-Georges Du Vergier, Marquis de Larochejacquelein (1804-1874). In 1832 he supported the Duchess du Berry and was sentenced to death, later acquitted. He was a outspoken against Freedom of Press. Abd-El-Kader, also known as "El Hadj" (1808–1883),was elected Commander of the Believers and proclaimed the Holy War in 1832. He later proclaimed war against France in 1839. He was interned in Toulon and in 1853 liberated by Napoleon III.
