| Abstract: |
This print depicts Attorney General Pierre Ambroise Plougoulm, who was notorious for his legal action against the Charivari and other newspapers. Recent research by Nicole Villa suggests that the person shown here was not Plougoulm but rather Silvestre de Chanteloup (see also Bouvy N°7), who was responsible for the trials against "Le National" and "La Tribune". The editor of the paper was sentenced to 5 years in prison and to a fine of 22,000 Francs. |
