dc.description Published in: Le Charivari, June 14, 1833
dc.description.abstract Joseph, Baron de Podenas (1782-1851) was a politician. His proportions were an easy prey to Daumier's art: A rather shapeless head topped by a strange looking tuft of hair. Podenas was defeated in the elections of 1834 and lost his seat as Deputy for Narbonne, which he had held since 1829. Podenas is shown here with a pear shaped head showing a striking similarity to Louis-Philippe. There is a play on words with his name and "Pot de Naz" meaning nose pot.
