dc.description Published in: La Caricature, June 11, 1835
dc.description.abstract Montalivet is holding the bridle while Thiers helps King Louis-Philippe to mount his horse. Together they try to send him off to Spain for a military intervention. Persil in his black gown (as Minister of Justice) also provides the necessary support. An alliance between France, England, Spain, and Portugal had existed since 1834. Basically, this print refers to Thiers who, after his diplomatic failure in Vienna, tried to induce Louis-Philippe to assist the liberals in Spain. The King ordered the disbanding of the troops which Thiers had raised. This print clearly refers to the shift of interest in the constitutional regime of the young Queens of Spain and Portugal, guaranteed by France and England in 1834.
